They were in town for their Watch The Throne Tour, and my God did they have all of us watch the damn throne. It was such a monumental time in music and in my life personally. Being able to watch Jay-Z, my favorite artist of all time, perform live is something that I will never forget the rest of my life. Everything I've heard about his ability to perform live were all true. From his breath control to his crowd control, he really is a master of his craft and I respect him twice as much after seeing it all in person.<br />
<br />
Kanye To The. Kanye really stole the show in my opinion because I already knew what to expect from Jay, but Kanye just surprised the hell out of me. His stage presence is amazing. His individualism is exactly that; individualism. Dude was wearing a black t-shirt with an insane graphic, leather pants or leggings, and a leather kilt. There was a segment during the show after they performed "Made In America" that really stuck with me. Kanye had the violins going as he spoke to the crowd, <i><b>"Everyone tells you to be humble, be humble, be humble. When was the last time someone told you to be great? Be great everybody. Be great! Be amazing!"</b></i><br />
<i><b></b></i><br />
A salute to you Kanye for being such an inspiration. Now, if anyone has been wondering where I've been and why I haven't been posting, I just haven't felt like it. For the past few months, since my last post in September, I just haven't really felt like I had the material that were up to par. I've come to a full circle since then and have revamped what I want to do with this blog as well as what I want on it.<br />
<br />
Thank you to those who've stayed loyal and to those who constantly ask me about the blog. Back to what I do best and that's to provide you guys with photos to look at. All taken by Ken "K. Sole" Soleta of course.<br />

The weather has been cold lately out here in Los Angeles, and by cold, I mean cold for us Angelenos. My favorite piece by far this season is the vest by Gap. I can throw it on top of another light jacket like I did here, or on a shawl cardigan that I love so much. Such a versatile piece of clothing and something definitely worth investing in.<br />
<br />
Another item I'd like to highlight is the vintage Citizen watch I am wearing in the photos. It's an old watch that my dad wore all the time before he passed away. My mom recently got the band replaced and passed it on to me. I've been wearing it everyday since then. It means so much to me and is definitely my favorite accessory.<br />
<br />
Last, but not least, a BIG thank you to my girlfriend who made this day possible. She woke up extra early when they first sold the tickets for the Watch The Throne Tour and purchased them for me. You single-handedly crossed off one of my biggest goals on my bucket list and I'm glad I was able to experience it with you.<br />

My friend K. Sole has been extremely busy with school, and August is just a busy month for me in general due to birthdays including my own. Other than being busy, it's also because I've taken a step back and really analyzed where I started out with this blog, where it has gotten me, and what I am planning to do to keep it moving forward. When I decided to launch this blog, I made sure everything I did was original to ME, but as time went on, I realized I started to sway away from that and did things to please others. Other bloggers to be specific. It's a very common pit to fall into, but I never imagined myself falling in it and I'm glad I caught myself before I fell any deeper. It may not be anybody else's business, but I just felt it was appropriate to share with my readers.<br />
<br />
With that said, here are some photos K. Sole snapped of me this past Sunday.<br />

<b>"Jamford" Suede Oxfords by Polo Ralph Lauren</b><br />
<br />
The main thing I want to point out from this outfit are the suede oxfords I picked up recently. It's always a great experience to find a pair of beautiful shoes by Ralph Lauren at a reasonable price. I just love how versatile they are. They can easily be dressed up, or worn down. These will definitely be worn all throughout fall and winter. I don't really mind them being suede since it never snows here in Los Angeles or rarely does it rain.<br />
<br />
Here's a more detailed photo of them.<br />

As you can tell, I am completely obsessed with these shoes. I've always been a shoe guy to begin with, and these are just lovely. Can't wait to wear these out later on this season!<br />
<br />

I tell him to calm down and stay in the moment, but that’s just who Diji is. Migrating from a third world country at the age of 12, he truly embodies the spirit of a kid chasing the American dream. We walked around Downtown LA discussing all sorts of topics from the concept of his mixtape to his love for fashion. Read and you might just find out who the f*ck Diji really is. </b></div><br />
<div class="MsoNormal"><b>When people read the title of the mixtape, they might think it’s another cliché way to title an introductory mixtape. I have a feeling it’s deeper than that. </b></div><div class="MsoNormal"><i>It IS deeper than that. When we decided to make the mixtape and call it Who The F*ck Is Diji?!, it was so that I can introduce myself to people through my strengths and skills in rap, but due to our team's conflicting schedules, the tape kept being pushed back and was constantly pending from being released. This gave me time to write more material, but more importantly, to really find myself as an artist. The mixtape, for me at least, started drifting away from a statement to a question that I asked myself: who the fuck AM I? What kind of music represents me? The mixtape doesn't only serve as an introductory mixtape to people that have never heard of me, but it also helped me find my niche.</i></div><div class="MsoNormal"><i><br />
</i></div><div class="MsoNormal"><b>I truly believe that finding your niche is very important regardless of what line of work you are involved in. How did finding your niche help with your development as an artist?</b></div><div class="MsoNormal"><i>I remember my manager asking me during one of our earlier meetings "What is your niche? Why do you rap? Who do you rap for?". I never really was able to answer the question. Not until now, but verbally I still wouldn't be able to. I can definitely answer that question through my music. The wait for WTFID gave me time to really think about what my niche is, and looking into it helped me develop as an artist because now I feel more secured as to what my music represents. I'm more clean-cut and feel like I'm not jumping from subject to subject anymore. I guess you can say that finding my niche helped develop myself as an artist because I found what I represented, and I show that through my music.</i><br />
<b></b><br />
<b>Speaking of your manager, how did that relationship come about? </b><br />
<i>Well, I had a friend in high school that knew him when he was rapping. My friend introduced me to him, and that was it from there. Having a mentor like him really help develop my skills. To come to think about it, I probably wouldn't be rapping right now if I never met him. Whattup Yanne!</i><br />
<b></b><br />
<b>On your track "Lobby Life", you mention that you listen to Waka Flocka and House of Balloons. Those are two completely different genres of music. I'm very interested to know what you had on your iTunes while recording WTFID.</b><br />
<i>I was listening to a bunch of different shit. My girlfriend introduced me to other types of music other than rap. I was listening to indie, hardcore rock, rap, and all kinds of music. I just became more open minded as I grew older. Listening to different artists from different genres inspired me to take their passion and use it to spark my own. I just love music, plain and simple.</i><br />
<i><br />
</i></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7P8W6ejvlKXlUqLoqNVThsX7qvMfItC6Qgrha8EMMY_ficKPgl6q4h7_OSXMOOhBXeKBZrH7bJb27n4Ls9dVW51JNE5L578ITROeZTG609VG1MAdG9OHMzTtzscEGD0K53V1n7fmXrG4/s1600/KJS_8950.png" imageanchor="1" style="clear: left; float: left; margin-bottom: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEi7P8W6ejvlKXlUqLoqNVThsX7qvMfItC6Qgrha8EMMY_ficKPgl6q4h7_OSXMOOhBXeKBZrH7bJb27n4Ls9dVW51JNE5L578ITROeZTG609VG1MAdG9OHMzTtzscEGD0K53V1n7fmXrG4/s1600/KJS_8950.png" /></a></div><br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><b>Other than music, what else inspires you not just as an artist, but a person in general?</b><br />
<i>It might come off as a surprise, but a whole lot of other things inspire me. From shit I learned in my art history class, to the aesthetics of clothing. I try to tie it all together to help me grow as an artist. </i><br />
<i></i><br />
<b>Being that The Common Grounds focuses mainly on men's fashion, what's an essential piece of clothing that you can't live without?</b><br />
<i>I'm very big on denim, specifically jeans. I love the idea of being able to transmit my personality into the jeans I am wearing. If you take the time to research the whole idea of denim, it really has its own world. It might seem a little far fetched, but I can relate denim with my music. As I wear my jeans overtime, you can see different stories through the different fades. My music is exactly that. I try to tell stories of my experiences and hope that my listeners can relate.</i><br />
<i></i><br />
<b>The world of denim is really crazy when you get into it. It's amazing how dedicated people can be with their jeans. What are some of your favorite brands?</b><br />
<i>I'm really leaning towards APC and the whole idea of "less is more", but damn they're expensive. I'm a starving artist who goes to community college relying on financial aid. I can't be dropping $200 on a pair of jeans! I'm working on a pair of selvage jeans from GAP right now. They're not APCs, but they're serving their purpose.</i><br />

This specific series I'd like to introduce is titled "What I Found Wednesdays". What inspired me to come up with this series is my love for thrifting. That rush you instantly feel when you find something special really can't be compared to anything else. This will allow me to share with you guys all the awesome things we've bought from thrift stores. From ties to vintage goods, anything can be found at your local thrift store. We won't be doing this on a weekly basis, but more often than not because of the fact that were constantly thrifting.</div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;"><br />
</div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">My photographer, Ken Soleta aka K. Sole, was out shopping around a few days ago when he came across a beautiful pair of weaved tassel loafers by Nunn Bush. Although Nunn Bush isn't normally your first option when buying a pair of shoes, for five dollars these can definitely be a part of anyone's shoe rotation. The details are amazing and the quality seems fine. Can't really complain especially when they were priced at five dollars. I can't wait to see what Ken decides to wear with these.</div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;"><br />
</div><div style="margin-bottom: 0px; margin-left: 0px; margin-right: 0px; margin-top: 0px;">Take a look at some photos <a href="https://twitter.com/#!/KSOLE_">K. Sole</a> snapped of his new loafers.</div><br />

I am proud to present a new series we will be working on titled "Artist Spotlight." It gives us the wonderful opportunity to feature talented artists that deserve to be recognized. Regardless of what industry the artist works in, we are looking forward to collaborating with talented individuals.<br />
<br />
I am truly ecstatic to present our very first featured artist. An artist from Los Angeles, Diji is set to release his very first mixtape appropriately titled "Who The F*ck Is Diji?" We hung out around Little Tokyo, and discussed all sorts of topics ranging from music to denim, and fashion in general. The full interview will be set to release very soon along with his mixtape.<br />

Here are little teaser photos taken by K. Sole.<br />

I personally am not a big fan of the heat but I do love the long, lazy summer days. Style wise, many people tend to believe that it's difficult to pull off certain looks during the summer, but you just have to invest in the proper materials. Materials like cotton and linen are some popular examples. Products made out of these materials are usually comfortable and breathable, which are two factors you want to invest in when buying clothes for the summer.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The same idea goes when investing in the right footwear to fight off the heat. Like I mentioned before, shoes really do compliment an entire outfit, especially in the summertime where you'll most likely have less clothes on. As a personal preference, I love how suede looks under the sun, and not to mention how comfortable they are.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Enjoy these photos of my suede bucks from <a href="http://www.colehaan.com/colehaan/catalog/pwp.jsp?l=shop,pwp,c-100/f-10002+70016+4294966454/t-MEN%27S|OXFORDS">Cole Haan</a>.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Cuff your pants once or twice to give your ankles a slight breeze. It's the summertime, have some fun. Also, I'm wearing a pair of <a href="http://www.bananarepublic.com/products/mens-socks.jsp">loafer socks from Banana Republic</a>. They're a great addition when you're going for the "no socks" look, and very comfortable as well. They don't prevent your feet from being able to breathe.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I am not a big fan of slippers or flip-flops, so when I'm walking around, or simply lounging, the classic boat shoe from <a href="http://www.sperrytopsider.com/store/SiteController/sperry/productdetails?catId=cat90046DM&productId=7-100210&skuId=***7********0195115*M130&stockNumber=0195115&showDefaultOption=true">Sperry Top-Sider</a> is definitely my first option. The fashion world has seen nautical-inspired pieces as of late, but the authentic boat shoe has been around for years. I remember my own father wearing a few in his earlier years. You just can't go wrong with a classic.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">What yells out summertime more than a boat shoe? </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

H2O Plus is a company that sell sea-derived skincare products. Unlike the many other skincare companies out there, H2O Plus uses ingredients found only in nature and not in chemical labs. They use an array of natural ingredients in their products, and even offer an <a href="http://www.h2oplus.com/category/discover+h2o+plus/ingredient+glossary.do?nType=1">Ingredient Glossary</a> on their website. You can find a product from H2O for any skincare problem you may have. From dry skin to acne problems, there is a product for you.<br />
<br />
As a part of their <a href="http://www.h2oplus.com/category/skin+care/oasis+oil+free+hydration.do?nType=1">Oasis Oil-Free Moisturizing Collection</a>, these three new shaving products are amazing. I was lucky enough to test them out prior to their release, and this was the first time I was ever satisfied with a shave. Before these products, my skin felt rough and spotty after a shave, but now, my skin is as smooth as they have ever been.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLZ4MpTpaDjWnvq297I40OCIzaZzCO9X6E_5oMU3w9ccySC1w1HCN9R6BN6UNEM78vOcvuyKHFv0bZ_Vq3Gw6G16jvlbbuAxA2Eyxkciq2e3HsKm7HKoXE_6cPm5kfc7MbZA-CSNVFYLs/s1600/h2o.png" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" height="303" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjLZ4MpTpaDjWnvq297I40OCIzaZzCO9X6E_5oMU3w9ccySC1w1HCN9R6BN6UNEM78vOcvuyKHFv0bZ_Vq3Gw6G16jvlbbuAxA2Eyxkciq2e3HsKm7HKoXE_6cPm5kfc7MbZA-CSNVFYLs/s640/h2o.png" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The product on the very left is the <a href="http://www.h2oplus.com/product/exfoliator+for+men.do?search=basic&keyword=men&sortby=bestSellers&page=2&refType=1">Oasis Men Energizing Facial Scrub</a>. This particular product acts as a cleanser prior to a shave. It buffs away impurities and revitalizes your skin for a shave with the help of natural ingredients. <b>Price: $18</b>.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The product shown in the middle is the <a href="http://www.h2oplus.com/product/oasis+men+shave+foam.do?search=basic&keyword=men&sortby=bestSellers&page=2">Oasis Men Precision Shave Hydro Foam</a>. This it pretty much your shaving cream, but unlike the foamy ones you buy at your local grocery stores, this product consists of a water-light foam and nourishes your skin while shaving. One of the key elements found in the product is Vitamin E, which is a powerful antioxidant that helps soften your skin. <b>Price: $18.</b></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><b><br />
</b></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The third product shown on the right is the <a href="http://www.h2oplus.com/product/after+shave+for+men.do?sortby=bestSellers">Oasis Men Oil-Free Post Shave Balm</a>. After you're through with shaving, this is the product you apply to pretty much top it all off. It rapidly cools and comforts freshly shaved skin. <b>Price: $20.</b></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><b><br />
</b></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Each product is sold individually, but can be purchased all at once if necessary. With the purchase of all three, you're looking at about $56 + taxes in skincare products, but worthy ones at that. It may take a bit of convincing on your end as far as needing three different products for a clean shave, but it definitely is worth every penny. Just like how clothes are an investment, skincare products are exactly the same and can only help you in the long run.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">If you are located in Los Angeles, and are interested in the products, visit the H20 Plus store located in the Glendale Galleria Mall. Talk to my buddy Josh, and he will take care of any skincare concerns you may have. Tell him Rei from The Common Grounds sent you! </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

Modern Vintage Today (MVT) is a boutique specializing in vintage clothing that meets the trends of today. Owners Mary Moutry and Jennifer Dawn are two amazing people that have been friends for over 15 years. It was my first time walking into MVT, and I was blown away by the overall set-up of the store. Mostly consisting of women's clothing and accessories, MVT does carry a variety of vintage menswear as well. I actually picked up a nordic shawl cardigan that I will definitely be wearing later on the year.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">If you're obsessed with vintage clothing, it is a must that you check out MVT for yourself. Not only do they offer great prices on their products, they also offer services such as personal styling, personal shopping, and alterations. I'm truly glad that we have boutiques like MVT popping up on this side of Melrose, or in Los Angeles in general. Jennifer and Mary take pride in offering the best customer service and they will welcome you into their store as if you've been their client for years. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Thank you Jennifer and Mary for allowing us to snap some photos of the store! It was a pleasure meeting you ladies, and I can't wait to see what else you guys do with MVT.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

Capsule is located in the heart of the "Bike District" on Melrose and Heliotrope. The event went on from 2pm-8pm, and it was one of the most memorable events I've ever had a chance to cover. Anytime you have good company, good food, and good music all rolled up in one event, chances are it will be successful. I couldn't be anymore happier for my friend AJ, and the rest of the Capsule Family.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">A big thank you to barber/co-owner of Capsule, Vince (aka <a href="http://vincethebarber.ca/">Vincethebarber</a>). If you guys haven't heard of him yet, he's cut hair for Chris Bosh, Miguel, NewBoyz, Ron Artest, and the Jabbawockeez. I've heard of him before, but this was the first time meeting him. With such clientele, you'd think he'd have an ego, but he was the complete opposite. He's just an overall humble guy who loves what he does and that's to cut hair. With the team he has established along with his professionalism, the sky is the limit for Capsule.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I also want to thank <a href="http://iamjayp.com/">JayP</a>, a respected DJ and also co-owner of Capsule, for allowing us to be a part of this event. Thank you and a salute to my longtime barber and friend <a href="https://twitter.com/#!/ajthabarber">AJ</a>. I couldn't be any happier to see his progression from doing cuts in his garage to having a seat at a full-blown barbershop such as Capsule.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">As you can tell from the photos, Capsule really emphasizes simplicity and elegance. When I first walked in, I thought I in an art exhibition. From the smooth wooden floors to the various pieces hung on the wall, you feel as if you are in an art gallery rather than a barbershop. Instead of stiff chairs that most barbershops offer, you get to sit on a comfortable black leather sofa while you wait for your turn. With haircuts starting from $20, you really do pay for the ambience the place has to offer on top of the quality hair cut you will receive from one of their barbers/stylists. Whether it's a scissor or a razor cut you are looking for, stop on by the shop and get cleaned up!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I also want to say whats up to the amazing people I met during the event including <a href="https://twitter.com/#!/byum">Eli Lagrimas</a> from RawMedia and the ladies from <a href="https://twitter.com/#!/mvtcouture">Modern Vintage Today</a>. I actually have a separate post that I'm currently working on for Modern Vintage Today, a boutique specializing in vintage goods. Stay tuned for that!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

They've withstood the test of time. The versatility they offer is certainly unmatched. It's a great alternative when you've grown tired of your oxfords. Don't be afraid to throw a pair on to add a hint of variety to your footwear selection.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjE_P5CF0dkuON-6QsaJj0Toy71IYbNzxFCWsePc82ABizDR7SRBhl8ashEjVbVCgmYQzigGlY5vnKKmjaeADU6w4yPIUK7_fNFA2TaCoilNAk2u6ZSfqTfzz9K2mJHN8GYaVbQXCSX334/s1600/KJS_6840.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjE_P5CF0dkuON-6QsaJj0Toy71IYbNzxFCWsePc82ABizDR7SRBhl8ashEjVbVCgmYQzigGlY5vnKKmjaeADU6w4yPIUK7_fNFA2TaCoilNAk2u6ZSfqTfzz9K2mJHN8GYaVbQXCSX334/s640/KJS_6840.png" width="424" /></a></div><div style="text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div style="text-align: left;">The ones I have on are a pair of loafers from Ralph Lauren. There are a ton of brands out there that make loafers. Brands such as <a href="https://bassshoes.harborghb.com/">Bass</a> and <a href="http://www.florsheim.com/shop/index.html#feature=5">Florsheim</a> are notable companies who make quality shoes. The retail price on them aren't steep to begin with, but if you're hesitant on paying full price for a pair, you can always visit your local Nordstrom Rack and I can almost guarantee a few of them laying around. You can also visit your local thrift stores and score on a pair, but you might have to clean them up a bit for them to be wearable. </div><br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjsgiEQLehpNB1PftOnUFotgG9kMPAXOaCa37HifLUtblYGl9OV5YBFnGBSJYOnddfwpsO0f4oAZD631kJC2VLXCQ9U9gC7Im03984y3HCaG0Ek8UmQEz4LSl34orMoN1MStqgbeKmVdUE/s1600/DoubleShot.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjsgiEQLehpNB1PftOnUFotgG9kMPAXOaCa37HifLUtblYGl9OV5YBFnGBSJYOnddfwpsO0f4oAZD631kJC2VLXCQ9U9gC7Im03984y3HCaG0Ek8UmQEz4LSl34orMoN1MStqgbeKmVdUE/s640/DoubleShot.png" width="640" /></a></div><br />
It's very tough to stay away from the combination of brown leather shoes with dark denim. In this set of photos, I paired the loafers with my selvage jeans from the <a href="http://www.gap.com/">GAP</a>. There is just something about the stripes on my varsity cardigan that totally completes the look. It's a perfect combination of brown leather shoes, dark denim, and a varsity cardigan that just seems appropriate for class.<br />

Well, it has been a little over a week now since spring hit us over here in Los Angeles and it hasn't been pretty. We've seen more rainfall than sunshine. Our team had to cancel our shoot last weekend because it was raining so hard that it would've been completely impossible to shoot until this past weekend when the weather finally cooperated with us. Enjoy our first installment in our small spring series. Photo Credits to<a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/kensoleta/"> KSole</a><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Why "The Transition" you ask? This is a time where many people may be confused on what to wear due to the random weather. I like to call it The Transition because we're at a time where a small part of the winter season is still with us while slowly transitioning to spring and its warmer climate. Though you may not need to bundle up as if a snowstorm was on its way, you still need to have the right pieces in your wardrobe to keep you warm when cooler climates from the winter season decide to re-appear. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZ3QC7eBLS7_L6QVIT8CaqRW-2JPFWNiDyDRGTobR2WkoZ5OqBccyXjvbwL0i_caL_fw5M5D29MG76YdPUm4WAp-opGD-dPZwZ_0m3RDXGEodRFqxrXSdJJIaUpxgJW12Rr7uW1E8feSI/s1600/spring1first.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhZ3QC7eBLS7_L6QVIT8CaqRW-2JPFWNiDyDRGTobR2WkoZ5OqBccyXjvbwL0i_caL_fw5M5D29MG76YdPUm4WAp-opGD-dPZwZ_0m3RDXGEodRFqxrXSdJJIaUpxgJW12Rr7uW1E8feSI/s1600/spring1first.png" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">As you can tell by the photo above, the sun wasn't out at all and hasn't been out consistently since spring arrived a week ago. No sun in Los Angeles? Yes, it does occur and when it does, I like to layer up accordingly. The denim jacket is a nice, warm replacement of a wool coat that isn't necessary during spring. The versatility of the jacket is amazing and can be worn with so many outfits. In this case, I paired it with a slimmer fitting khaki and layered it with a cardigan and a button down. Topped it off with a solid pair of moc toe boots to keep my feet warm.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

<div style="text-align: left;"><span class="Apple-style-span" style="font-size: small;">More on the boots, I've had them for a little over a year now and they're probably my favorite pair of shoes. I picked them up for close-to-nothing at a local Nordstrom Rack and they have yet to disappoint. Eastland is a family-owned business founded in Freeport, Maine and have been manufacturing classics since 1955. People might be uncertain about the quality, but I'll be the first to say that they are made great. I've worn them in rain, slight snow, and even in mud. They've held up nicely and barely have any noticeable scuffs. I've had no regrets in buying these at all and would make the purchase all over again. Our team had a whole shoot lined up last Sunday, but this terrible rainstorm in California ruined our entire schedule. We're currently re-scheduling, but won't be able to do anything until this damn storm passes us by. I was so disappointed that we couldn't shoot and I am truly sorry we haven't been able to have a quality update in a few weeks now.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">With that cleared up, I've been taking care of things behind the scenes. One of the biggest updates I was able to accomplish was the purchasing of a domain. If you recently visited the blog through the original blogspot link, you might have noticed that it asked you to be re-directed to www.thecmngrnds.com. Don't be alarmed! We decided to pull the trigger on purchasing the domain name. We also have a new e-mail (<i>info@thecmngrnds.com</i>) in which you can reach us at for any general inquiries. Other than the fact that we couldn't get www.thecommongrounds.com, everything has been going well.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgus4L6etyoJ7i-JSRT9tM89V96XntOMmvKXioM1iRz0gG23oThoKuFEMj7ydm8q8JZd_pWA9gzSAj2chBucfCSJihpid1PteJHOImZNWGLQz0ZLRYxFrw5MHL3r03zAlGKOh1nzmSTr14/s1600/IMG_1065.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgus4L6etyoJ7i-JSRT9tM89V96XntOMmvKXioM1iRz0gG23oThoKuFEMj7ydm8q8JZd_pWA9gzSAj2chBucfCSJihpid1PteJHOImZNWGLQz0ZLRYxFrw5MHL3r03zAlGKOh1nzmSTr14/s1600/IMG_1065.png" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Lastly, we had the creation of our <a href="http://www.thecommongrounds.tumblr.com/">Tumblr Page</a>. I don't want to ever saturate this blogspot page with a bunch of updates that have no content at all which led me to making a Tumblr page. It's a convenient source I can use to post about random stuff that I am interested in without having to sacrifice the content on this page. You'll see me post about food, music, travel, and all that good stuff on there. If you are on Tumblr, please do hit that follow button. We're also on <a href="http://www.bloglovin.com/">Bloglovin</a> and that is also a source you can find us on.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Again, sorry for the lack of updates, but do check up on our Tumblr page and follow us on <a href="http://www.twitter.com/thecmngrnds">Twitter</a> for any future updates. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Best Regards,</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Rei Fernandez</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">PS; If you participated in the <a href="http://www.thecmngrnds.com/2011/03/give-get-discount.html">Give & Get Discount</a> event I had two weeks ago, share with us what you were able to purchase with the discount by dropping a comment. I had a blast writing it and couldn't be anymore thankful for the wonderful opportunity.<br />
<br />
She had me take photos of a few things that I've found in thrift stores in the past and here is one of my favorites from the post. You can read the entire post on <a href="http://www.thriftstoreconfidential.com/">Thrift Store Confidential</a>.<br />

Two to four times a year, the GAP company hosts a special weekend called "Give & Get". How does it work you ask? It works exactly like what it is called. You "get" 30% off of an entire purchase when you present the flyer. You "give" by allowing us to donate 5% of total purchase amounts from that weekend to different foundations.<br />
<div><br />
</div><div>With this flyer, you'll be able to save 30% between <b>March 17th - March 20th</b> at the following stores:</div><div><ul><li>GAP (Baby/Kids stores as well and online, but one time use only)</li>
<li>GAP Outlet</li>
<li>Old Navy</li>
<li>Banana Republic (online as well, but one time use only)</li>
<li>Banana Republic Factory Store</li>
<li>Athleta.Com (one time use only)</li>
<li>Piperlime.Com(one time use only)</li>
</ul><div><br />
</div><div><b>You can receive a flyer from me by simply commenting on this post below with your e-mail address.</b> I'll go ahead and send them to you right away. I am limited to 50 flyers so it definitely is first-come, first-served. Once you receive the e-mail, you should be able to print it out. Present it to the cashier and they should give you the 30% off. You have all weekend to use it. Again, this event doesn't start until March 17th. I suggest going into the store prior to that date and try stuff on. It will save you time. If you're friends and family are interested as well, I believe you can print out multiple copies of the flyer. Go ahead and use it all up!</div></div><div></div><div><br />
There are TONS of great deals you can score on with this flyer (hint; 30% Red Wing boots on Piperlime)<br />
<br />
Enjoy!</div>The Common Groundshttp://www.blogger.com/profile/04281538214885226460noreply@blogger.com56tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-1044596781772941140.post-25034306325821488622011-03-08T08:17:00.000-08:002011-03-24T02:35:29.206-07:00A Day At The Thrift Stores<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div>It is an absolute thrill to find gems in places you'd never guess would have them. I am not ashamed to admit that half of my wardrobe were either bought from a thrift store or purchased with a discount. Some of my favorite pieces in my closet were bought from thrift stores all across the state of California.<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I remember when I was a kid my parents would always drag me to the local Goodwill and I would just sit there and watch my mom go through what I thought back then were piles of junk. Now I understand why my mom spent countless hours thrifting. The best part of thrift hunting is the fact that you'll never know what you'll discover. If you've never been thrifting before, there are a few things you should keep in mind. Number one rule is that you should never walk into a store expecting to find anything. There might be days or even months where you'll find absolutely nothing, but all it takes is that one gem to make up for the drought. Secondly, keeping track of which stores are successful for you can not only save you time, but will save you money in the long run. The last golden rule to remember is if it doesn't fit, simply don't buy it. It can be the nicest pair of dress shoes, but if it is the wrong size, it will just take space in your closet. You can purchase it if you plan on re-selling them, but that is just a whole different story in itself. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

You can have the nicest jeans or the nicest coat, but if the shoes aren't right, then the whole outfit isn't right. One can argue that shoes are the biggest aspect when putting an outfit together.<br />
<br />
I had stacks of sneakers a few years ago, but sold all of them in exchange for more quality shoes. I figured that I'm better off investing my money in footwear that will last me in the long run. With the footwear collection I have now, I can wear one specific pair with multiple outfits and feel great doing so. I would advice people to purchase a pair of brown boots because they will honestly last you longer than you think. Owning numerous pairs of sneakers isn't wrong since it's such a great culture in itself and will always consider myself a part of it.<br />
<br />
I recently bought these Timberland Earthkeepers. They were being sold at a GREAT price so I couldn't pass them up. I bought these along with pair of Timberland Abington Guide boots in black that I also bought at a great price and will feature them on my blog soon. You just can't go wrong with a pair of boots made by Timberland. Check out the photos my buddy <a href="http://www.flickr.com/photos/kensoleta/">KSole</a> snapped of the Earthkeepers when I broke them out.<br />

It may seem like a small number, but it all adds up.</div><div><br />

It is a series where people all around the world can reach out to them with a picture of an outfit and if it passes their criteria, it will be featured on their blog. I contacted Gianni, who runs the blog, with the photos from my last blog post and I was lucky enough to be featured on such a dope website. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I received this coat from my girlfriend for Christmas last year and I've been wearing it religiously since then. GAP has definitely changed many aspects within their company including the fit on their products. This coat would've fit like a poncho on me if it were 3 years ago considering how awful many of the clothes from GAP fit back then. The coat fits great and can be worn with so many outfits which you guys will see in my future posts.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />

Make sure to switch the video to 720p for the best viewing.</span></div><div><br />
</div><div>Nowadays, it almost seems like there are so many different hairstyles out there for men. I can't blame you if you are confused about which hairstyle to go with. I've personally gone through many different styles from a handful of barbers. I've gone from being bald to having a full head of hair which reached my shoulders. It has only been recently where I found the right style for myself. So don't be alarmed if you are one of those confused individuals who have no idea which haircut to go with.</div><div><br />
<b>Take these general tips when deciding which hairstyle would fit you best:</b><br />
<br />
<ul><li>Don't be shy when you are at a barbershop or at a salon. They are professionals who know what they are doing. Ask them questions, bring in a picture of a style you might possible want, share your concerns, and ask them for THEIR opinions.</li>
<li>Look through style magazines, websites, and TV shows. They usually have professional hair stylists working behind the scenes.</li>
<li>Stick with what works and stay away from what doesn't. This is vital. Don't get a haircut just because it is trendy. Certain haircuts just aren't for everybody.</li>
<li>Finding the right barber/stylist is just as relevant as finding the right tailor. Doing so won't just save you time, but it will only help you in the long run. He/She will know what would work and what wouldn't with your facial structure.</li>
</ul><div>As for myself, I have been getting the same haircut from the same barber for quite a while now. I get the sides shortened up with a fade and leave the top slightly longer. Long enough so I am able to style it with ease. It takes me about 2-4 minutes to style my hair right out of the shower. That includes blow drying and applying hair product. </div><div><br />
</div><div>The style isn't all that extravagant at all, but it works for me. Easy to style and it makes me look slimmer/taller (somewhat does I hope). I usually wait about 4 weeks until I go back to my barber for a touch up. You shouldn't wait no longer than 6 weeks for a haircut. Maintaining that hair on top of your head is just as important as maintaing your clothes.</div><div><br />
</div><div>Here is how my hair currently looks. I'm about a week in from my last haircut.</div><div><br />
</div><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody>
<tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHINI0VBdGnbXdMfHKQlmkrMDTUyRx12hvJScMfDZv136QvEzdUXnXFsJEgwZUT5-ZSjN4CZT629CmPGYSa9mbAByA_p1iIX1pTrNYM_VPRU03xImgnCBFav7VCIJnswiLvpwdBHiTG10/s1600/cut.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhHINI0VBdGnbXdMfHKQlmkrMDTUyRx12hvJScMfDZv136QvEzdUXnXFsJEgwZUT5-ZSjN4CZT629CmPGYSa9mbAByA_p1iIX1pTrNYM_VPRU03xImgnCBFav7VCIJnswiLvpwdBHiTG10/s1600/cut.png" /></a></td></tr>
<tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Gingham shirt by American Apparel. Tie by Polo Ralph Lauren. Watch by Kenneth Cole.</td></tr>
</tbody></table></div><div><br />
</div><div>With that said, the most important advice I can give to anyone is just to find the right hairstyle that works for you. Go out there and experiment with different styles. Grow your hair out, go bald, slick it back, do whatever it takes for you to find the style that works for you and your face. You'll look in the mirror and you'll instantly look slimmer, taller, and proportioned. That is when you know you have found the right haircut for you.</div><div><br />
</div><div>Have a good one.</div><div><br />

Thank you for taking the time to read. I truly appreciate it. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I decided to visit a few local thrift/trade stores the other day with the intention to sell a few things from my closet, but I ended up going home with a beautiful bag. I walked into one of my favorite trade stores and my girlfriend immediately points out this bag that was sitting on top of one of their display shelves. I walked straight to the shelves and grabbed the bag. It turned out to be a Pendleton bag so I was expecting a hefty price tag, but ended up being a steal. Spent about $2 after trading in a few things that didn't really fit my wardrobe anymore. I am one happy camper!</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I am still amazed with the condition of the bag. You can never go wrong with anything that is made by Pendleton. Manufactured in the USA using the finest fabrics, I feel very comfortable investing in a timeless piece. 100% virgin wool, tartan plaid, shoulder strap, and a hint of brown. What else could I ask for? I can't wait to break the bag in.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Check out some of the photos I took of the bag</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br />

</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">For those who aren't familiar with the Pendleton brand, it is a family owned business that has been manufacturing goods for over 100 years now. Ranging from work shirts to blankets, all of their products are made with the finest quality possible. Here is a vintage ad from Pendleton that I found interesting.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br />
